Sunday's Run

I ran 20 miles yesterday and it went well aside from the stumble at mile 1.  It was pretty well completely dark at 6:15 AM when my big toe found chuck of asphalt rising about an inch from the path.  I managed to stay up right for about three seconds as I stumbled top heavy at a good pace.  I remember thinking "I'm goin' down, I'm goin down... oh God, bones, watch the bones..." and then everything slowed down and I could see myself like those flip cards that show motion. My head and chest were about as far forward as possible when I managed to tuck in and roll shoulder first downhill on an asphalt trail.  And roll I did, like a beach ball!  I came to a stop about 20 feet from where it all began and lay there stunned.  Cautiously I did the bone inventory -check- the muscle inventory -check- the cuts and bruises inventory -check.  I survived unscathed, unbelievable.  Actually I would have appreciated a little road rash to show the kids at school... bragging rights and all.
Interestingly, we were talking about running stumbles on Saturday over coffee.
The quintessential running play list is coming along.  I have about 10 tunes.  Send me yours.
Bye for now,  M

Wow, a somersault roll down asphalt! And no scrapes to show off. Too bad? Congrats on another 20 miler. With all the speed and such you sound like you're prepared to break that 4 hour mark! It also sounds like you're ready for the taper. Going it alone is tough. I know. So here's some of my favorite tunes. Hope you enjoy. For starting out and just getting into the groove of things Trisha Yearwood's "Cowboys are my weakness", "Baby don't you let go", "Standing out in a crowd", and "Nothin' About you is good for me". They've all got a good beat and just get me moving. I also like Johnny Cash's "Five feet high and risin" and "A boy named Sue" because it makes me laugh every time I hear it. I liked the movie "Honey" and it has great music in it for running. The soundtrack is on i tunes. Some of my favorites from that are: "I'm good", "Ooh Wee", "It's a party", and my favorite and theme song during my first marathon training was "I believe". I like "Unbelievable" by Diamond Rio, "Hit me up" by Gia Farrell, "One week" and "Who needs sleep" by Barenaked Ladies, "Against the Grain" by Garth Brooks, "Turn around" by Katy Fitzgerald, "Goody Two Shoes" by Adam Ant, "It's the end of the world" by R.E.M., "Take me" and "Pon de Replay" by Rihanna, "Suddenly I See" by KT TTunstall, and "I wanna talk about me" by Toby Keith because it's just so funny. O.k. now I'm done. Wait, I'd love to hear your comments on the democratic and republican conventions. Now I'm done.

HI Mike,
Glad to hear that you're alright after your tumble. You must stay upright at all times! I miss running with you. Have been running on my own although not regularly in August. I'm starting the "Personal Best" clinic this week and looking forward to something different. See you in Treherne although just at the start line because you'll be miles ahead of Linda and I!

Jen, Thanks for the music. I'm familiar with some of the selections and I look forward to checking them all out. Great tunes. As for the four hour marathon, don't bet the farm. It's been a goal for a couple of years and I'm within 10 minutes of achieving it, but it's still a long shot. I just can't seem to pick up more speed. I've been thinking of a new strategy which I'll share in a blog in the next day or so which might help. I'm hoping race day adrenalin will spur me forward. And yes, the taper, the sweet taper, I am indeed ready!
The conventions were brilliant... where did Palin come from? She sure was a fire cracker at the Republican Convention. She made McCain look the the VP. I am a democrat by nature so I'm hoping Obama will take office. It would indeed be amazing for America to elect the first person of colour to the White House. That would be dandy! Cheers, M

Deb Darlin' Nice to hear from you. Long time. The PB clinic looks very interesting and I would hook up with you, but my focus is completely on Minneapolis. I'm about to enter pasta season so my entire family is groaning. You can relate? I will be running Treherne, but not for speed. I was thinking of a 2:10 or 2:15. According to my training schedule it's supposed to be an 18 miler run for me, but I'll make it up or just ignore it. Cheers to you and thanks for the update. Good luck at Treherne. M
